In today’s spotlight, meet Komal Abbas, VP – Head of CIO Office at Accelerant.
Please introduce yourself, your role at Accelerant, and an interesting fact about you.
My name is Komal Abbas and I am the VP, Head of the CIO Office at Accelerant. I am responsible for supporting the Group CIO in aligning our functional operations and IT delivery to Accelerant’s strategic goals. I’m generally quite boring but do enjoy exploring new cities — warm, dry and flat terrain is preferred!
If you weren’t in your current profession, what alternative path might you have pursued?
I love planning events! The devil is in the detail, and every detail should perfectly complement the other. I always thought I might have my own event-planning business one day.
What makes the culture at Accelerant unique or different?
The vision, the ambition, and the people. Our leadership truly believes in our vision and ambitions, and our people are just as committed to making them a reality. Describe a time when you felt particularly proud of your team’s achievements.
It’s hard to pick just one. In every corner of the company, there’s this real sense of teamwork. Everyone’s ready to roll up their sleeves to make sure we all hit our goals, and that’s what really makes me proud of my team and excited to be on this journey with them.
What trends in insurance are you most excited about for the future?
Much like the rest of the tech world, the introduction and evolution of AI tools. Insurance is a relatively antiquated industry, but most players are undergoing a digital transformation wave to enhance underwriting and claims processes. Naturally, at Accelerant, we are already thinking about what’s next and how we harness innovation to enhance our member experience 😉
What would you say to someone considering a career in your industry?
The world of insurance is a really exciting place right now. The industry as a whole is shifting to embrace technology, and there is real opportunity to contribute to innovative solutions and secure long-term career growth. Even in times of uncertainty, Insurance is extremely resilient. It’s a no-brainer!
