As a Senior Underwriter on the UK/EU team, Katie Hodges brings structure, insight, and a little bit of spreadsheet magic to everything she does. Since joining Accelerant in January 2024, she’s been a trusted partner to our Members—helping manage performance, refine underwriting guides and wordings, and jump into whatever is needed to keep things moving forward.
We caught up with Katie to learn more about her work, her passion for volunteering, and why being remote doesn’t mean being disconnected.
Fast Facts with Katie
Favorite travel destination: Anywhere with snow for skiing or clear water for snorkeling—tough to pick just one.
How she spends a day off: With her husband, 4-year-old daughter, and their energetic Cockapoo. Bonus points if it’s a family trip before school-holiday pricing kicks in.
Quote she lives by: Always believe something amazing may happen.
Gadget she can’t live without: Google Sheets. From holidays to shopping lists, if it needs planning, there’s a spreadsheet for that.
Favorite way to give back: Volunteering with two local charities—one supporting maternity and neonatal care through the NHS, and another focused on bereavement support.

A Closer Look: Katie’s Perspective
What makes Accelerant’s culture stand out?
The people, without a doubt. Remote work can feel isolating at some companies, but not here. Everyone is approachable, helpful, and genuinely invested in each other’s success. Even when we’re not in the same room, it still feels like we’re working side by side. There’s a strong sense of collective ownership—when one of us wins, we all win.
What excites you most about your role?
It’s the relationships. We each take ownership of specific Members, which means we build a deep understanding of their business and can tailor our support in meaningful ways. No two Members are alike, and the variety keeps things interesting—one moment I’m reviewing a reinsurance exclusion, the next I’m looking at a claim for a horse kicking a pet sitter. It keeps me on my toes, and I love it.
Any standout memories so far?
Definitely! One that comes to mind is being hosted by one of our Members for a full Chinese banquet. The food was unbelievable, and their hospitality made it a truly memorable night. Another highlight was our London All Hands—finally getting to meet so many colleagues in person after connecting virtually was a real treat.
What’s one of the most interesting projects you’ve worked on?
It’s hard to pick just one. I’ve had the chance to work on several unique and bespoke product reviews that exposed me to entirely new areas of coverage. There’s always something new to learn, which keeps things fresh and challenging.
What advice would you give someone exploring career opportunities?
Do something you enjoy. It sounds simple, but it makes all the difference. I didn’t grow up dreaming of a career in insurance—and honestly, who does?—but I followed what interested me, and that path led me here. If you’re enjoying what you’re doing, it never feels like a chore.
