Risk Capital Partner Spotlight: Ozark Specialty Insurance Company

When Columbia Mutual Insurance Group launched Ozark Specialty Insurance Company in late 2024, it saw an opportunity to bring more than 135 years of mutual values into a fast-changing specialty market.

Ozark was built so Columbia Insurance could move deliberately into the specialty space and offer agents new ways to provide peace of mind. Even before Ozark was launched, Columbia knew it wanted to participate on the Accelerant Risk Exchange to bring their financial strength and long-term philosophy to a modern, data-driven ecosystem.

What makes Ozark and Accelerant a natural fit is a shared worldview. Both believe in rebuilding insurance around alignment, transparency and trust—connecting underwriters and capital in ways that serve everyone involved.

As part of the Columbia Insurance family, Ozark combines the strength and long-term focus of a mutual insurer with the flexibility and speed of a new entrant. It was created to extend Columbia’s financial discipline and underwriting expertise into the specialty program space, a segment that’s grown rapidly alongside the rise of MGAs and data-driven underwriting models.

Backed by Columbia’s intercompany pooling arrangement and an AM Best Financial Strength Rating of A- (Excellent) and positive outlook, Ozark offers the stability of a mutual carrier and the nimbleness to build new, forward-looking partnerships.

Rather than chasing quick growth, Ozark focuses on sustainable expansion—serving program administrators and specialty underwriters who value alignment, transparency and balance sheet strength over short-term gains.

Its structure allows Ozark to collaborate with a range of partners and platforms connecting specialty underwriters with well-capitalized risk carriers and expanding access to capacity across multiple lines of business.

That philosophical overlap runs deep: disciplined underwriting, steady growth over scale and data as a tool for clarity, not complexity.

Ozark’s launch is emblematic of how mutuals can continue to participate in specialty insurance, a space that was once harder to access.
